Item Description

This auction is for a 20" x 20" painting titled "Hope Blooms" created by Annie, a 19 year old cancer patient.  Annie's painting is acrylic on custom wood and canvas wrapped board, coated in high gloss acrylic.

Five young cancer patients had fun creating personal paintings at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on March 5, with guidance from local artist Mark Hedges. The paintings these kids created on that day are more than works of art - they are truly acts of love and triumph.

Cancer is bad enough. But when it affects a child, it is especially devastating.  These kids deserve a chance to enjoy life, laugh and have fun.  To dream and to create.  To grow up.  Your donation from your winning bid can help them do just that - and this painting will be a beautiful reminder to you and your family of their strength and courage.

Annie's Story - "Hope Blooms"

"In the Spring of 2016, I was 18 years old, taking college courses and working with children in the Rehabilitation unit of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) as part of its college volunteer program. One day my Mom noticed a pea-sized lump in my forearm, and ten days later, and seemingly overnight, the lump was the size of an egg. In May, after a series of x-rays, scans and a biopsy, my family and I received the terrifying news that the lump in my arm was a malignant tumor. I had rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer. In a matter of days, I went from working with children at CHOA to being a patient there, at CHOA’s Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. I just completed 43 weeks of intense chemotherapy, surgery, and 28 radiation treatments. Now I will have my end of treatment scans to determine if there is any evidence of disease remaining. "

"Almost a year has passed since my diagnosis, and it is Spring again. I have always loved the Spring, but this year the season is especially meaningful to me. Spring is a time of renewal and rejuvenation…of flowers blooming. This year, I think of the beautiful saying “Where Flowers bloom, there blooms Hope.”
