Item Description
This treasure is autographed by the author himself with a dedication reflective of the Mendoza Zoo Elephants; the elephants this auction will benefit. The photos are of Dr. Douglas-Hamilton autographing this book and with it in hand!
Among the Elephants: ‘A seminal book that reflects beautifully the last years of a golden age of Ethology! The book sold close to a million copies, so they certainly knew their audience.
Dr Iain Douglas-Hamilton is to elephants what Jane Goodall is to chimps. Both he and his wife have campaigned tirelessly for the conservation and protection of elephants since the 60's, and Iain was the first person to alert the world to the first elephant poaching crisis, providing the hard data that eventually led to the international trade ban in 1989.
His charity Save the Elephants is one of the most respected NGOs in the field today, and he continues his research on behaviour and long distance movement, as well as counting elephant populations, to put the best scientific data on the table for long-term management in a rapidly changing world.
Save the Elephants is currently leading a coalition to stop the killing of elephants, stop the trafficking of ivory, and end demand. No mean feat.’ (this is a quote from a reviewer of a year ago).
