Description: This 3D printed train is an artistic representation of the high-tech process used by physicians at Rady Children’s Hospital to print a 3D life like model of young patient’s hearts. A life saving method used to help them visualize the anatomy of a heart for surgery. The class banded together to come up with a connected locomotive with a heart insignia.
Learning the process of 3D printing is just one way OTA 2nd graders experience project based learning.
75% of funds raised from both second grade projects will go towards continuing to provide the tools and resources for project based learning and technology at OTA
25% of funds from both second grade projects will go to Rady Children’s hospital 3D heart program.
It takes $600 to fund one 3D heart model which would equate to $2400 raised by the 2nd Grade art projects

Note: OTA Kids Have the Biggest Heart
When OTA 2nd graders chose their art project they made a decision with a lot of heart.
The class was inspired to raise money for Rady Children’s 3-D Heart Modeling Program, combining their desire to help other kids and their love of hands on learning and innovation.
Rady Children’s Heart Institute is now creating precise 3-D replicas of patient hearts. Not only can physicians more effectively plan and evaluate complex surgeries, but the models help to educate patients and their families about procedures.
You can actually hold the heart in your hands, rotate it and look at the relationship of all the different structures.
For this item, we are combining the values and vision that makes OTA shine by supporting our kids in being active thinkers and social responsible citizens.
