From the Arist:
Kibwe is the Swahili name for blessed. Kibwe represents all the magnificent animals that have been blessed by Wildlife SOS. These animals may now live their lives in environments that provide for their needs and give them the dignity they deserve to live out long and happy lives.
Kibwe is an abstract quilt, constructed of all new fabric and pieced together using the foundation paper piecing method. The fabrics used on the front of the piece are primarily batiks. In Africa, batik was originally imported by Dutch merchants from Indonesia. While wax is traditionally used as a resist, Africans, primarily the Soninke, Wolof, and Senegal people use either rice paste or mud with excellent results.
The non-traditional color of blue for the body of Kibwe represents the unique personality that comes through from each animal as documented by the many successful rescue stories of Wildlife SOS. His contrasting background of orange allows him to be the center of attention. The color block border is reminiscent of his African heritage.
I hope you have the perfect spot in your home for this blessed king.
