Stanley Musial, known affectionately by baseball fans as "Stan the Man" was an outfielder and first baseman for the St Louis Cardinals . He was drafted to the Cardinals in 1941 and played on the team until he retired in 1963, with the exception of two years he served in the Navy during World War II.
A left-handed player with a powerful swing, Musial racked up 3,630 hits over the life of his career, with a .331 batting average, 475 home runs, 1,951 RBIs. With stats like those, he's thought by many baseball experts to be one of the greatest hitters of all time.
Stan the Man helped lead the Cardinals to World Series wins and incredible three times during his profound career, which led to his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 and the Cardinals retired his #6 jersey in 1963.
