Item Description
This is the modern and sleek Concava model, so named for its unusual concave profile in the upper half of the pen. The body is made of a variety of different wood veneer inlays with a beautiful curvilinear arrangement akin to a modern work of art. The overall balance of the woods used tends towards the lighter side on the colour palate. The sophistication and elegance of the veneered body is amplified by the 24kt gold plate hardware which also has a modern aesthetic. It is a twist pen that opens by twisting away and retracts by twisting towards you. It measures 13.5 cm or just over 5.5 inches in length. This pen was turned by hand on a lathe by John Baker to help Wildlife SOS raise funds. The finish is cyanoacrylate which was applied in a very thin coat, allowed to cure, sanded down and then repeated until a beautiful polished and extremely durable sheen was obtained. It comes in its own velveteen draw string pouch. Why not give a loved one a unique gift chosen just for their personality and hand made with love and skill?
It comes with an unmarked ink cartridge and takes easily obtained Cross R style Refills (.12" X 4-9/16").
Item Special Note
The pens for the Wildlife SOS auction were designed and made by John Baker (mostly) and Sylvie Malenfant. They are both passionate about animal welfare and elephants in particular, recognizing that their exotic nature and size leads to their exploitation and untold suffering in captivity at the hands of humans. Wildlife SOS has done so much to help relieve their plight by providing a refuge where they can heal both emotionally and physically. Their hope is that these pens will help contribute a 'small piece of the pie' necessary for Wildlife SOS to continue with their amazing work on behalf of elephants, bears and any other animals in distress with their 24hr emergency response service.
