Every evening, W. R. Hearst’s guests gathered in the splendid social rooms on the ground floor of Casa Grande—his formal name for the main house. Follow in their footsteps as you travel back in time and experience what it was like to be a guest at Hearst Castle, known then as “The Enchanted Hill.”
Board the Hearst Castle bus at the Visitor Center to start your 5-mile ascent to the top of the Enchanted Hill—a journey narrated by Alex Trebek of Jeopardy!
At the conclusion of every daytime tour, visitors will have the chance to revisit the Neptune Pool and Roman Pool, or explore the gardens at their own leisure.
After you’ve finished touring, board the bus to head back to the Visitor Center, and experience a new route home, including the vestiges of the “bear pits” that were built for Hearst’s renowned private Zoo.

Two dozen threatened or endanger species live in the area including the Peregrine Falcon, Brandt Goose, Brown Pelican, Sea Otter and Snowy Plovers. Morro Bay is a major West Coast wintering area for over 100 species of birds providing year around bird watching opportunities. Its waters are home to California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals, which use the mud flats as a hauling out area. The sand spit, which forms Morro Bay, is an excellent place to walk among the dunes, beachcomb, picnic or simply enjoy the solitude of over five miles of quiet beach. Easy flat-water access from our dock coupled with the abundance of nature make Morro Bay THE ideal kayaking destination.

The 21-passenger Coast Guard approved (semi-submersible vessel) SSV SEAVIEW boasts a viewing room located beneath the surface of the water, with windows located on both sides of the boat and a roomy bench perfect for relaxed viewing. With Sub Sea Tours even young children can scope out marine life like schools of fish, jellyfish and kelp, from inside the boat! You also get a chance to see, from above deck, our local sea otter, harbor seal and sea lion populations. With the calm conditions of Morro Bay, the Morro Bay Sub Sea Tour provides adults and children alike with an educational and fun experience that can’t be beat!
As the SSV SEAVIEW begins the 45-minute narrated tour of Morro Bay, keep an eye out for a dozen or so species of sea birds diving, feeding and cruising the harbor, as well as other local wildlife. When we get to the Super Secret Spot at the northern end of the bay, you can go below to view the fish. As the skipper (or a little helper) tosses food over the side of the boat, watch the fish come to life and swim right up to the windows.
