Item Description
Title: California in Spring
Artist Inspiration: Claude Monet, 1840-1926, France
Description: Claude Monet, the founder of French Impressionist painting, is an essential master to study during a student’s art education. The second graders in Mrs. Wright’s and Mrs. Valenzuela’s classroom enjoyed learning about Monet – beyond his best-known water lily paintings. He painted many landscapes dotted with poppies across the French countryside, so we thought it appropriate to capture the cheerful California poppies – our state flower – currently lighting up our local hillsides after our much needed winter rains. Each student created three unique poppies with a simple design and watercolor wash. The poppies were then arranged and applied to a canvas, customed framed, and now happily await a wall to adorn.
Medium: Watercolor and permanent marker on watercolor paper applied to acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 39” wide x 27” high
