Item Description
From the archive of the Kona Historical Society, this beautiful photo was printed on canvas and is ready to hang. It was featured in the exhibit, Kona Ranching and Kona Cowboys: Our Way of Life and shows cowboys at Keauhou Bay: "Cattle shipping occurred in many of the bays along the Kona Coast, stretching from South Kona to North. Here a group of paniolo, having finished shipping their cattle, pose for a photo in the location of the current pier at Keauhou Bay. Each cowboy represents a family, ranch, and tradition of hearty skill and deep personal knowledge of the topography and land they were working in—areas that many other cowboys from other areas would not be able to easily navigate. Among this group was the highly skilled and venerated kahu Naluahine Kaopua and the talented paniola Kapua Wall Heuer, a ground-breaking woman in many respects. Representing W.J Paris Ranch, J. Johnson Ranch, T.C White Ranch, and A. Wall Ranch are Robert A. Chai, Louis K. Hoomanawanui, Naluahine Kaopua, Keawe Keliikini, Kapua Wall Heuer, Samuel Hoomanawanui, and John Namuo in 1933."
It measures 16"x11", the canvas is a cotton/poly blend and it has a UV resistant coating.
