Item Description
Description:
"Sloth Going Home” was designed, carved, and printed by Derrick and
Priyanka. A linocut print is made by: first, hand-carving a design into
linoleum mounted on a block of wood; second, inking the linoleum; and
finally, pressing the block onto a printable surface. This print was made as
a reflection on the illegal exotic pet trade, which has been targeting sloths.
The artists challenged themselves to manipulate positive and negative
space in order to juxtapose the sterility of captivity with the biodiversity of
the lush rainforest. The piece highlights the autonomy of the subject
liberating herself.
