Item Description
Win this certificate for a two-day class with Tucker Knives, designed to teach you the skills of old world blade-smithing and the art of coal forging. You'll take home a knife that you create with your own hands.
The hands-on instruction will cover the complex process of how knives are created. Ken Tucker will take you step by step through the process starting with building a coal fire and controlling the temperature, to hammering a blade from a billet of steel into the correct shape. You will experience the science of heat treating and tempering to establish a life time of strength. You will then work on guard and handle assembly, shaping and polishing and the correct process for sharpening your knife. To complete the process you will make a custom leather sheath to fit your one of a kind knife.
This two-day course includes all of the materials and equipment necessary to create your own custom hand forged knife and sheath that you will take home with you at the end of your workshop. Each workshop is limited to two students to ensure a quality learning experience.
Ken Tucker has been a master blade-smith for over 15 years.
Classes are offered on weekends and weekdays. Currently, classes are being booked 4-6 weeks out. The day starts at 7:30 am with a break late morning while the steel is tempering. During the break you can go up the road to the deli or cafe for a bite.
Day 2 will be sanding, polishing, and sharpening of your knife and then leather work.
