Item Description

Title & Artist:  "Jackson Pollock" – by Rachel Branham

Medium & Size:  Acrylics on wood.  21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D.  For indoor display only.

Artist Statement:  Another year, another fish-related pun from Rachel Branham. This fish is inspired by Number 1, 1950 (Lavender Mist) by the famous abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock. Using a similar color palette and gestural strokes, the design reflects one being involved in the application of paint, demonstrating movement and meticulousness in the face of apparent spontaneity. While not exactly like the original master, this "pollock" is a meditation in ritual, action, and harmony.

Artist Biography:  Rachel Branham is an artist-educator living in northeastern Massachusetts. She holds a Master of Arts Education from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts Education from Ohio State University.

In 2016 Ms. Branham published her first graphic novel, “What’s So Great About Art, Anyway?” A Teacher’s Odyssey, which has been named a Finalist for a 2016 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in Education. She has also written and illustrated many short comics and zines, as well as the children's book The Sock Book.

Ms. Branham is most interested in art-making as a tool for self-expression and social justice, and she believes that project-based, individualized, and holistic education is a human right for all young people.

Hosting Business:  "Jackson Pollock" is on display at Marblehead Bank, 21 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, MA. On July 1, this cod will be moved to Abbot Hall, 188 Washington St., Marblehead, MA.
