Item Description
The Battle of Antietam was the Civil War's bloodiest single day of combat. On this tour, you and three friends will step back into history and explore each phase of the see-saw struggle that left more than 23,000 men dead, wounded, or missing. With much of the battlefield unchanged, you will see the terrain from the same perspective of the soldiers. Guiding (and driving you) through the 2,700 acre park will be Roger Kaplan, a retired Army officer who served as an assistant professor of military history at the US Military Academy and later as Chief of Historical Services at the Army's Center of Military History. Schedule the tour on a date prior to November 15, 2017 (except for September 16 and 17, 2017, the anniversary of the battle).Tour lasts from 4-8 hours based on the winners preference.
Your package also includes the book Landscape Turned Red by renowned historian Stephen Sears. He draws on a remarkable cache of diaries, dispatches, and letters to produce what the New York Times Book Review has called "the best account of the Battle of Antietam."
