Sail on the FAME of Salem, a replica of an 1812 privateer!
#1 Boat Tour in Salem according to TripAdvisor!
The original Fame was a 'Chebacco boat' that was commissioned as a privateer when war broke out in the summer of 1812. She was the first American privateer to bring home a prize, and made 20 more captures before being wrecked in 1814.
The new Fame is a full-scale replica of this famous schooner. Framed and planked of white oak and trunnel-fastened in the traditional manner, our Fame is based at Salem's Pickering Wharf Marina, where she takes the paying public for cruises on historic Salem Sound. Aboard the new Fame, passengers learn about the fishermen, privateers, merchants and men of war who shaped our North Shore.
Fame sails up to four times daily from mid-May through late October.
Item Special Note
Not valid for special events such as the July 4th fireworks sail, the Gloucester Schooner Festival Fly-by, Tall Ship cruises, etc.
