Artist Inspiration:

Joan wanted to create a Colorado kitty inspired by old west images. What came to mind was the 1965 classic western movie “Cat Ballou.” Joan also incorporated images of Jane Fonda as a cowgirl outlaw, temptress and convict (much of the movie was filmed in Colorado).

Artist Bio:

Joan was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. After driving across country, she met her future husband in Miami. After getting married they decided to settle in Colorado, midway between both families. 

Joan has been involved in art “since I could pick up a crayon,” and currently exhibits with the Ken-Caryl Art Guild at various venues. Favorite medias include drawing with graphite or pastels, painting with acrylics on watercolor paper or canvas, and working with fiber, found objects and beads. This combination has brought her diverse and interesting mixed media skills.  

The Kaufmans have a dog, Buddy, who came from the Rat Terrier Rescue about 15 years ago and a cat, Tom, who came from a shelter in Arizona in May 2015.

Joan supports several non-profits including Cat Care Society. She is most passionate about the great outdoors and spending time enjoying it. This is Joan’s second Painted Cat project.

Online Bidding:

We are offering online bidding for the Painted Cats, Flat Cats, Clay Cats and the Paper Cats from May 13th through September 13th.  Online bidding will close on September 13th.

Bidding will resume at the Tails of the Painted Cats Gala Dinner & Auction on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Pinehurst Country Club from 5-8pm.

Please note: If you are unable to attend the Gala Dinner be sure to set your maximum bid online by September 13th and we will serve as your proxy bidder during the event.

Winning bidders are responsible for all shipping costs.

The Painted Cat will be shipped through UPS. Delivery signature and insurance will be required. The cost for insurance will be based on the winning bid amount.

All cats will be available for pick up at the Gala Dinner & Auction on September 16, 2017. Cats that need to be shipped will be shipped on September 18, 2017.
