Item Description
Title & Artist: "Cecelia" – by Randa Dubnick
Medium & Size: Fine-line marker, metallic ink, and acrylic paint on wood. 21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D. For indoor display only.
Artist Statement: I am a fan of the Marblehead Festival of Arts and was happy to be invited to decorate a codfish again this year. This year I created a codfish covered in scales—musical scales. I discovered that lines of "music" arranged horizontally look like stripes. (And I checked: there is such a thing as a striped cod.) And repeating the scales creates diagonal lines. Once I started working with this idea, the puns kept coming: C scales, sea scales. And I decided to name this fish Cecelia (Sea Celia). (After deciding this, I discovered that St. Cecelia is the patron saint of music, so that works.) This year I worked with gold, silver, and iridescent paint to capture the beauty of the fish.
Artist Biography: I am an independent artist—primarily a painter, but I work in other media as well. I am a member of Porter Mills Studios in Beverly, MA, where I have a studio. I am also a member of Galatea Fine Art in Boston. I studied art at Southern Colorado State College and the University of Colorado at Boulder.
I make art every day and have a blog, where I post images daily. I also do portraits and create keepsakes for Memory Imprints. You can find out more on my website.
Hosting Business: "Cecelia" is on display at Seaside Aesthetics, 56 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, MA.
