Beautiful hand turned Mesquite Bowl by John Fleming.
Here is John's description of the bowl:
"It is a small, mesquite bowl inlaid with turquoise. The wood was cut in the San Saba area of south, central Texas. The wood was given to me. The wood did not need to be dried as it was dried when I received it. I cut this particular piece from a larger log. I turned this bowl on a midi-lathe. I primarily used a gauge and skew to form the bowl. It took about 40 minutes to turn to get it to the shape I wanted. I sanded with 50, 80, 120, 220 and 600 grit. Then I finish with a wood turner's water based finish - then sand, then finish and repeat the process about 4 times. The turquoise was purchased in Santa Fe, New Mexico - we were told it is real turquoise. I believe it to be real turquoise. I secured the turquoise in the wood with super glue. Because mesquite is a stable wood, I felt comfortable cutting the bowl in the direction it grew. The sapwood, heartwood and bark are visible on this bowl. Total time to make the bowl is estimated to be about 3 hours."
