About Rebecca Gilbert:

A native of Northern England, Rebecca Gilbert now lives in Los Angeles.

Rebecca received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Newcastle College ofArt& Design in Northern England.

Since 1994, she has lived abroad – her eclectic and elegant style of mixed media are seasoned with years of world travel.

In 1994 she left the U. K. and went to live in Southeast Asia where she began exploring the textures of mixed media. This way of working gave the ultimate definition and style to her paintings. It allowed her to capture the vibrancy of culture and life in these tropical climates and Asian societies, in contrast to her native European life. From the delicate hues and textures of northern landscapes to the bright, vivid colors of the FarEast.

It was her time in Singapore that presented Rebecca the opportunity to exhibit Internationally, collaborating with five galleries and exhibiting in solo and group shows in the East and back in the U. K.

In 1999, Rebecca moved to Milan, Italy where she painted private and commercial projects. These two years afforded her time to gather inspiration from the old masters of western art. She exhibited regularly with artists from the Garibaldi Art Group.

The crossroads of culture has always been intriguing for Rebecca who uses a variety of media to create and affect the light and shadows in depicting images from various environments and cultural climates. Rebecca has experimented with a mixture of paint, chalk and recycled materials on canvas and paper to create her unique style. The fine dusty chalk balances the luster and sculptured quality of oil. Furthermore, the flat canvas is lifted by swirls of paper dressed in paint.

Rebecca's move to Los Angeles has further influenced the nuance of her work, evolving into a mixture of pan European - Asian and Southern California hues, colors and natural beauty.

In California, Rebecca has had shows at the Bergamont Station, the Hanger Gallery and Sylvia White Gallery as well as a featured show at the San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art.
