Item Description
Title & Artist: "Zen Garden" – by Lauren Nohelty
Medium & Size: Pen, ink, and watercolor on paper on wood. 21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D. For indoor display only.
Artist Statement: The Marblehead Festival of Arts has always been a part of our family. From my earliest memories, my parents, sister, and I have spent the 4th of July weekend setting up art exhibits, photographing the street festival, or working the information booth. When asked if I would be interested in creating a cod for the third time, I was thrilled to be able to participate.
Generally, my favorite art medium to work in is pen and ink; however, I have recently started introducing color into my work. When designing the cod "Zen Garden", I allowed my imagination to run wild in both color and form.
Artist Biography: Lauren Nohelty has been an active volunteer for the Marblehead Festival of Arts since she was 8 years old, spending every summer participating in Festival activities. She recently completed her junior year at Babson College in Wellesley, MA, with highest honors.
During Lauren's senior year at Marblehead High School, she won a Gold Key in the 2014 Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her visual art portfolio, as well as additional Gold and Silver Keys in visual art. In 2014 Lauren received an Outstanding Work award in the MFoA Drawing exhibit.
Lauren is a member of the National Art Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and in 2011 she received the MFoA Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music summer program. Lauren is currently the Sorenson Scholar for artistic excellence at Babson College, where she is attending for entrepreneurial studies and is a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
