Item Description
Title & Artist: "The Lupines" – by Kaitlyn Nohelty
Medium & Size: Acrylic and paper on wood. 21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D. For indoor display only.
Artist Statement: "The Lupines" is based on the book about the "Lupine Lady," Miss Rumphius, by Barbara Cooney. This was one of my favorite books as a child—my mom would read the story to me before bed, and I have fond memories of this time. My cod painting honors the delicate colors and patterns of the lupines that, as depicted in the book, have spread across the countryside.
In the story, Miss Rumphius is fulfilling her promise to make the world a more beautiful place. A prominent theme in this book is the topic of what gives life meaning, which by its nature is very personal. After exploring the possibilities through firsthand life experiences, Miss Rumphius decides what her mark on the world will be and then charges others to do the same. This is my rendering of making a small place in the world more beautiful.
