Item Description

Robert L. Bates has lived in Kona since 1963, and has been active in the arts community since the 1990s when he first began working with oils before moving to watercolors, a medium he describes as “more challenging,” in the 2000s. In 2008, the book “Lopaka’s Legends of Hawaii,” written and illustrated by Bates, was released.

“I hope my artwork conveys my appreciation of living in Hawaii and my respect for the culture. I also try to capture memories of our ocean, beaches, flowers and birds.”

This beautifully peaceful original watercolor of a "Hawaiian Stilt in Coastal Pond" is double matted and measures 16"x20".
