Item Description
Two handmade 20 oz. beer steins thrown by Gene Tolkeim. One says, "North House Folk School" and the other says, "Grant Marais Minnesota." Glazed ceramic vase and North House 20th Anniversary Special Edition Timbers logo on each.
Gene has taught for over 20 years in the United States and in Norway and is an advocate for Norwegian folk art. His work has been exhibited in shows at the University of Minnesota, the Folk Art Museum in New York City and the Hedmark Museum in Hammer, Norway. He has won the Gold Medal in knife making at the Vesterheim Museum. Gene is also an accomplished potter, silversmith, and long-time supporter of the North House Folk School and Millan Village Arts School. Gene's pottery was featured in the book Norwegian Folk Art: The Migration of a Tradition in association with an exhibit at the New York Museum of Folk Art, and was available at the Smithsonian Institute's Museum Store during the recent "Vikings" exhibit.
