Item Description
Richard Fernicola, M.D. — New Jersey Shark Attacks of 1916
Meet Dr. Fernicola for lunch or dinner in Brick, New Jersey
Richard Fernicola, author of Twelve Days of Terror: A Definitive Investigation of the 1916 New Jersey Shark Attacks, based his book on actual events that occurred in July 1916 in New Jersey waters.
The book, a meticulous in-depth investigation of the shark attacks of 1916 plus modern-day shark attacks, required interviewing many people connected with the 1916 attacks and examinations of the arguments and conclusions of contemporary and modern scientists to determine the species of the shark involved in the attacks.
These tragedies inspired Peter Benchley to write the best-selling novel Jaws, which later became a movie by the same name. Richard’s book was also made into an episode for the History Channel: Shark Attack 1916 (2001), and the Discovery Channel’s docu-drama, 12 Days of Terror (2004).
Item Special Note
The objective of this auction is to spotlight individuals and organizations working effectively for ocean conservation, and raise funds for field research, education and conservation projects.
Being auctioned is dinner or lunch with one the world’s foremost shark experts or celebrities. This is a unique opportunity to “talk shark” face-to-face, one-on-one, with a real authority on sharks.
How it works:
- Bid on a celebrity, shark scientist or conservationist that lives or works in your area, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area.
- The winning bidder pays for the lunch or dinner and may bring guests.
- We will introduce the winning bidder to the celebrity, scientist or conservationist. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable date, time and place to meet within one year of the close of the auction.
All winning bids are deductible from US Federal 2017 income taxes as Charitable Donations.
