Peaceful, quiet and considered perhaps one of the best climates in the world, Lake Chapala is a 50-mile long lake just over the mountains south of Guadalajara.   Many of the 20K+ Americans and Canadians love the mountain and lake vistas here  in a warm and friendly Mexican people.  Daytime temperatures year around run between 60-90 deg C with very low humidity.  While most visitors come between Nov-Apr, year around is fine.  Some even enjoy the quieter summer when it rains most evenings but the mornings come with clearing sky, bright sun that dry up all the puddles, and lush vegetation.

You can fly into Guadalajara, the 2nd largest Mexican city and in 45 minutes be in Ajijic.   Recently featured on PBS Newshour as a prime area for Americans retiring to Mexico,  Why Foreign Retirees are Retiring to Mexico, the area also offers 3 live theaters, 2 cinemas, outdoor sports such as hiking and  kayaking, and many fine Mexican restaurants as well as international cuisine.  Located 2 miles to the west are several thermal spas which are particularly great in the winter months.   The area has great medical and dental services, a new community hospital and Guadalajara hosts medical schools and world class hospitals.  We also host the 2000 strong, Lake Chapala Society which supports the community with classes, medical screenings, large English language library, video library and more.

While visiting, stay in our recently remodeled guest house (casita).  Livingroom, galley kitchen, full bath plus upstairs bedroom with half bath.  Located 1/2 mile from the village center, it is a great base to begin exploring the community.   Public bus transportation readily available as well as taxi service.

This is an active DA community and there are often activities that will interest you including the 2018 DA_Lake Chapala Film Fest in March and April.
