Item Description

Each block set contains 16 blocks.   Each block has its own “theme” with a picture on each side relating to that theme.

Themes are: A Little From Many Makes a Lot!; Bidding for Good (silent/online auction); Blessed are the Cheesemakers!; Bon Appetit!; From Generation to Generation; Francis Stauffer (who contributed quilts and wallhangings which brought thousands of dollars to the relief sale over the years); Let the Celebration Continue! Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale Scenes; the Joys of Apple Fritters!; “Oldies” (black and white photos from the 70's and 80's from the Mennonite Church USA Archives. Throughout the entire set 16 “oldies” archived pictures are used.) Quilt Auctions; Quilt Designs; Something for Everyone; Ten Thousand Villages ( the theme for 2 blocks); Wallhangings by Debra Detwiler and Shirley Classen Dick.

Other info concerning the blocks:  Blocks are made with a “hard coat” non-toxic water resistant finish which can be gently cleaned with a damp cloth.  Each block has at least 4-5 coats, some more. The process used to make the blocks is decoupage, which became popular in the US in the late 1960's and  1970's, during the time the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale had its beginnings.

The oldest picture on a block is from 1969.

Block sets come with tote bags featuring the 50 year Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale logo.

Each block set also comes with 6 laminated “game boards” with suggested games and  matching activities to do with the blocks as well as a list of “I Spy” tiny details to look for on the blocks.

Please note: Smaller block sets are also available, plus some blocks are available during the sale at the Water Table in the Online Auction building.

(Personal note from Susan: Jep kept making a big deal about these blocks, but he's always excited. THEN I saw the blocks myself. What fun to look at them! So many memories! Jep wasn't exaggerating at all--These blocks are amazing!)
