Item Description

The de Young museum is the most visited art museum west of the Mississippi, the sixth most visited art museum in North America and the 35th most visited in the world. How’s that for impressive statistics! The building’s dramatic copper facade was designed to resonate with it’s tree-filled Golden Gate park setting, while the northeast corner of the building features a 144-foot tower providing panoramic views of the entire Bay Area. In addition to current exhibitions, permanent collections include American art; art from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas; and textile arts. The Legion of Honor, located high on the headlands above the Golden Gate, is quite possibly San Francisco’s most beautiful museum. Offering sunlit galleries, a bustling cafe, and quiet rooms for contemplation, appreciation, and intensive study, the Beaux-arts building displays an impressive collection of 40,000 years of ancient and European art in an unforgettable setting. Both museums are part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and exists to provide the community and region with high quality exhibitions, programs, education and outreach. This certificate admits one person plus one guest at the de Young or the Legion of Honor. Children age 17 and under are free. And we like free, don’t we! Check out www.famsf.org for programs and current exhibitions.
