Item Description
This piece was created specifically for the Famiy Sunshine Center Making Homes Safe Haven Auction.
"This piece is about the meaning of home.
It is ironic that we cut down trees to make homes for birds. Humans fabricated this simple wood birdhouse, yet most birds already live free in trees. Imagining it might help a bird feel more at home, then, we had to re-fabricate an idyllic tree.
Regardless of the fact that outer appearances are merely thin and fragile veneers, we persist in the illusion that we can create a "better" place of belonging for someone else. A fancy or grandoise house does not necessarily make a home.
Truth is, one's sense of home is an inner process, often only achieved through a lifetime of trial and error. Meanwhile, as we get there, we can always pretend"

Item Special Note
The colored pieces are made of thin slabs of porcelain clay, and attached with brass screws. They are painted, glazed, and fired with ceramic colors that will not wash off or fade. This piece is suitable for outdoor placement, but the porcelain panels are very fragile. Handle with great care, as you might handle the thin eggshell of a wild bird.
