Item Description
Framed Graf Zeppelin Stamp – this special postcard is mounted in a lacquered burl wood frame; the early to mid-1930s were the height of the use of dirigibles to provide trans-Atlantic air mail service between Europe and North and South America; the work horses of this air mail service were the German dirigibles Hindenberg and Graf Zeppelin; many countries issued stamps honoring the Hindenberg and the Graf Zeppelin; this postcard commemorates one of the periodic trips by the Graf Zeppelin from Germany all the way to Buenos Aires, Argentina; the stamps are three Denmark air mail stamps; the stamps were cancelled in Kobenhavn (Copenhagen), Denmark on April 15, 1932; according to the Stamp World catalog, the three stamps are valuable when found cancelled on a First Day Cover or other actual mail piece: 15 Ore stamp - $89.46, 50 Ore stamp - $195 and 1 Kr stamp $195; due to the desirability, the value is even higher; there is a Buenos Aires cancellation on the back of the postcard.
