Item Description

Cher McCoy will give you a VIP fabulous tour of historical Lexington with lunch at Rocca – the restaurant in the Robert E Lee Hotel!

"Just wanted to give you some feedback on the tour of Lexington, VA that we had won.  Cher Mccoy was wonderful setting up and driving us to the different places on the tour.  She arranged everything, paid for the tours and carriage ride and the meal at the Robert E. Lee hotel and even drove us around Lexington to show us other places of interest that we could visit on our own.  It was a full day tour and very interesting.  One of the best parts was chatting with her while we ate lunch, Cher is a very interesting person and very active in her community.  This was the first time for her to give this tour and she nailed it!!  I would totally recommend this tour to everyone."   Robert Rice, 2017

"Downtown Lexington has a historic past and a heritage of architectural preservation.  It features shopping, galleries, B&Bs, museums and offices occupying the 18th and 19th century buildings.  It’s been listed as one of the coolest small towns in America by Budget Travel and is ranked as one of the the best small towns to visit by Smithsonian.com.  It has been named to several lists for great retirement, including a list by Forbes.  In 2013, Travel & Leisure names Lexington one of America’s best college towns.  Lexington is the home of the Stonewall Jackson House, Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute.  There are several book stores, antiques, collectibles and historic artifacts and documents that are available at a number of stores.  Here’s some of what will be included in the tour:

1.  Lee Chapel & Museum
2.  Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery
3.  Marshall Museum located on the VMI campus
4.  Rockbridge Historical Society
5.  Horse & Carriage Ride Tour (from April 1 – Oct. 31)
6.  Stonewall Jackson House
7.  Renovated, modernized Robert E. Lee Hotel
8.  McCampbell Inn
9.  Lexington’s churches represent a variety of denominations and architectural styles.  Stonewall Jackson was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian.  R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church resembles the Confederate general and college president who sat on the vestry of the church’s predecessor, Grace Episcopal Church."

"McCormick Farm is also popular which is a few miles north of Lexington as well as the Sam Houston Wayside just north of Lexington.  Many people think Houston was from Texas but he was a Virginian.  And last but not least about 15 miles south of Lexington is the famous Natural Bridge – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World now stands tall as a National Historic Landmark.  It sits in the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley flanked by the Blue Ridge Mountains."
