Item Description
One Swing Dance Lesson for two -- Acclaimed teacher, dancer, and therapist Josie Say will work with you one-on-one! (NYC Only, Josie will come to you).
Josie Say has found success in the arts and entertainment industry for over 20 years. Through her first love of acting and theatre, she found her passion for dance and choreography, with much of her career focused on street/urban dance, such as lindy hop, charleston, jazz, hip hop, breakin’, lockin’, tap and capoeira. She is the founder of Harlem Soul, a collective of dancers specializing in the swing era and beyond (with the mission to “preserve and progress street dance”), co-artistic director of In Rhythm with Him hip hop ministry, and swing dance consultant for KB’s Definition of Creativity. Josie has served as administrative director for Future Shock LA, a youth hip hop dance company, and is an alumnus of Culture Shock LA breakin’ crew.
Based in CA and NY, she travels internationally as a teacher, choreographer, and performer, working in Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Croatia, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Italy, and Canada. Being one of the first revivalists in the early 90s and known for her fusion of traditional and modern styles, Josie has influenced multiple generations of the swing dance community. Josie is dedicated to preserving not only the art form of lindy hop, but the history and culture surrounding it. This led her to study and work with Tony Award winner Frankie Manning, while performing and winning several competitions with a variety of partners. In fact a recent win with Nathan Bugh granted her the title of Guest Performer with The NY Pops at Carnegie Hall.
