Item Description

The possibilities are endless! This six-posted timber frame structure could be used as a small guest cabin, a writing retreat, a woodworking shop or even as a barn for the goats you've always dreamed of. Built of solid, rough-sawn white pine timbers, this 16' X 20' structure includes three king post trusses and is ready to be disassembled and transported almost anywhere. Built by students in North House Folk School's 2017 Basic Timber Framing course, the frame is designed to be assembled using pegs that will be provided to the auction winner. The fully raised frame can be viewed on the North House campus.

The joy and beauty of timber frame construction is an essential ingredient at North House, both from a coursework perspective and throughout campus. Three buildings on campus feature the beauty, utility and strength of timber frame construction. All of the timbers in these buildings have been shaped by the willing hands of students -- this auction item features the same high-quality joinery.

Timber framing has been part of North House since the school's beginning. In addition to hosting Basic Timber Framing workshops, North House also offers opportunity to truly build your own, ranging from smaller frames for a beautiful sauna to custom frames for a family getaway cabin. A detailed CAD plan of the frame itself is provided to consult as you consider options for footings to slabs, windows to siding, woodstoves to doorways.

Item Special Note

North House will fully disassemble and stack the timber frame prior to pick-up. The winner of this auction item is responsible for transporting the timbers off campus no later than Oct 15, 2017. North House will provide assistance with its forklift for loading. For more information, contact North House staff at 218-387-9762.
