Item Description

This beautiful hand-dyed silk scarf is an elegant addition to any outfit in need of a little something extra. The material was dyed twice with logwood extract, giving it its sumptous purple color scheme. The pattern is created by using two different modants (substances that oxidize the dye and affix it to the fiber), in this case, alum and iron.

This luxurious accessory measures approx. 8 feet long.

 About Blank Slate Textiles:

"As far back as I can remember, I have been obsessed with the handmade afghans my family had accumulated -- their loopy, spongy textures, bold color combinations, and the seemingly endless design possibilities. But even more than their material value and personal appeal, I was drawn to the lasting legacy these textiles have; my grandmother passed away before I was born, but I'm able to have a sense of closeness with her through the afghan she made that was passed down to me. I will treasure that blanket always.

For me, fiber is an artistic pursuit.  Drawing inspiration from the characteristics and textures of organic fiber, my aim as an artist is to create textiles that call attention to the ways we embellish, armor, and protect ourselves in relation to our surroundings. Moreover, my hope is to inspire creativity, play, and imagination, while simultaneously exploring the broad meanings of personal identity, beauty, and otherness."

"Here at Blank Slate Textiles, our mission is twofold: to share our love of everything fiber related with like-minded artists, admirers, and collectors, and to provide our customers with heirloom-quality, handmade luxury items, quality craft tools & supplies, and excellent service.

Our online store, BLNKSLTTXTLS.etsy.com, is open 24 hours a day for shopping. The fiber arts and weaving studio, located in the historic village of Cooperstown, NY is open by appointment only; for more information about our education initiatives, or to see our products in person, don't hesitate to contact us: joe@blankslatetextiles.com"
