John Avakian has a BFA & MFA from Yale. He has investigated a variety of monoprinting techniques at SMFA, Boston for 24 semesters. In January 2017, he gave a talk and demo at Wheaton College. He will have 3 large-scale monoprints in the traveling Exhibitions USA called Kiss the Ground. His The Long Walk print will be used for marketing and educational purposes. John’s prints are in many private, library, and museum collections.
“An Adagio in the Wilderness” was created over an extended span of time beginning in 1997. Using new materials and tools, Avakian was guided by his goal of achieving interesting and meaningful abstract forms that would reflect representational, musical, and psychic memories. This monoprint was finally deemed finished by the artist in 2010. The title reflects the musicality and seasonal landscape associated with the completed visual form.
