Item Description
Vedado Azul El Vedado, La Habana
View toward the Malecon which is the promenade that runs along the edge of Havana. This vista depicts the 20th century residential district known as El Vedado. In the distance is the Carribbean Sea. The color emanates from the light at at the end of the day, known in French as "l'heure bleue" or "the blue hour." Most of the buildings were actually bleached of all color and not repainted in many years, but reflected the blue hue at twilight. Andrew went to a friend's mother's apartment to make this picture, however, the view from the balcony was not what he was expecting. When Andrew peeked through bathroom window, he discovered this view and surreptitiously removed the glass slats from the window to capture the image.
