Item Description
This Snake pendant from Metta Metalworks is a reproduction of a beautiful old piece found at a flea market in the Catskills, the seller describing it as Italian from the early 1900's. Originally a belt, Metta Metalwork's Kathy Cherry removed the second snake and changed the orientation, hanging it on a soft leather cord.
Naga (Sanskrit:नाà¤) is the Sanskrit/PÄli word for a deity or class of entity or being, taking the form of a very large snake, found in Hinduism and Buddhism. The naga primarily represents rebirth, death and mortality, due to its casting of its skin and being symbolically "reborn".
When asked about the inspiration for her work, Ms. Cherry says "There are so many powerful images in Buddhism and the teachings. I wanted to find ways to remember and incorporate them into my day to day life so I did what has always come naturally to me, I made something. It's jewelry that's designed to remind."
Details:
Cord has a double slip knot closure which makes the piece adjustable from about 18" to 34".
There is a little MMW logo hang tag trapped at the back.
