Item Description
Fogline Vineyards, Fulton
Four Bottle Pinot Noir Vertical & More
Launched in 2009, Fogline Vineyards make small lots of Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah and Chardonnay. Their home vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, at the top of Sonoma Mountain. This area of the Sonoma Coast is known as the Petaluma Gap, noteworthy for the wind and fog that blows in through a gap in the costal hills. These conditions create the distinct environment needed to grow world-class Pinot Noir.
All Pinot Noir are from the Russian River Valley. The 2012 and 2013 vintages are from Floodgate Vineyard and the 2014 and 2015 vintages are from Starscape Vineyard (Floodgate Vineyard has been renamed Starscape following a change of ownership).
The 2012 Pinot Noir opens with a touch of reductive qualities on the nose, allowing the oak to speak loudest. Soon, dark berry and cherry make their presence better felt, with the oak taking a lesser role and the soft, integrated tannins coating the palate in this light-bodied, unfussy effort.
The 2013 Pinot is a Gold Medal 2016 Sonoma County Harvest Fair winner.
Located in the Middle Reach of the Russian River Valley, Floodgate Vineyard produces an elegant Pinot Noir with a beautiful, perfumed bouquet of violets that compliment a cherry and spice flavor profile.
The 2014 and 2015 Pinot Noir are a moderate garnet color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry partner with spice and toasty oak. Nice flow in the mouth with polished tannins, showing good vibrancy and vivid flavors of black cherry and black raspberry, underlain with a compliment of oak.
Also included, is a tour with winemaker Brent Bessire for six people. By appointment only, please.
