Christian Gonçalves received his BFA from Rhode Island College. He concentrated in sculpture while minoring in philosophy. His works are static in their presence yet fluid in their form: shapes evocative of atmosphere and presence that are part of an ambiguous thread. Exhibitions include AS220 Project space, Bannister Gallery/Focus Gallery, and ArtProv Gallery in Providence. His work is included in the collection of Bannister Gallery. He lives Providence.
“The Somnambulist” is a minimalist image culled from the ancient realm of forms. Referencing intense, personal moments of unconscious archetypes, Gonçalves has attempted to in invoke multilayered implications in which the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality is questioned. The psychological imagery is used to create a formal association that opens a unique poetic vein.
