Claudia Fieo is a Professor of Art at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. Her prints are in numerous private and public collections and have been exhibited regionally and nationally, most recently in 2017 at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CT); The Greg Hardwick Gallery, Columbia College (MO); Institute of Contemporary Art, Maine College of Art (ME); and A.P.E. Gallery (MA).
“Gli Olivi” is an example of Claudia Fieo's early works exploring intaglio printmaking techniques. Created in 1984, while living in Florence Italy to attend graduate school at Rosary College Graduate School of Art at Villa Schifanoia, which was in the hills of Fiesole just above Florence, Fieo created this work from drawings of an olive orchard completed on site. She scraped and etched away old imagery to recycle a zinc plate, and incorporated some of the cancelled marks into her new image of olive trees.
