Susan Potter worked as a registered nurse for 45 years in a variety of settings, obtaining Bachelor's and Master's Degrees during that time. In 2000, she began taking drawing classes which led her to seek instruction in collage and monoprinting. Her work has been shown at local art fairs in Barrington, Pawtucket, Riverside and Bristol. Susan has won two Honorable Mention Awards, one from the Art League of RI and another from the AAM. Susan is a member of several local arts collaboratives and art museums. She retired from nursing in 2015 and lives and works Rehoboth with her husband.

“Triple Peach” Nature provides an opportunity to explore the themes of color and structure. Beneath the bark of a tree or in the intricacy of leaf structure we can imagine a journey in time. The inspiration for this collage was the color peach. Having chosen the color, the artist began picking out handmade papers and paste papers purchased from a friend. Potter was focusing on playful themes at the time, and for whatever reason, thought about magical forests – lighter and more open than the density of New England’s pine forests. The center panel was created in one evening, and the artist originally thought she would stop there, frame it and sell it as a small collage. Several months went by. The collage re-emerged from a box of saved pieces. Potter was now working on larger collages, and decided to create two more side trees to complete the piece.  She is very satisfied with this collage – for the balance of the three trees and the openness it suggests.
