Oil on canvas

Janice McDonnell earned a BFA from the Ohio State University, and studied painting for years at the Art Students League in NYC. Her current work focuses on capturing the ever-changing Brooklyn waterfront. She has recently exhibited at Ground Floor Gallery, BWAC and the Lorraine Gallery in Brooklyn and the Attleboro Arts Museum.

“Gowanus 01” is the first in a series of paintings depicting the Gowanus Canal, a toxic superfund site in Brooklyn, NY, not far from her studio. Ms. McDonnell began this series several years ago and continues developing it, calling it “Pretty Industrial.” She paints both plein air and from reference in the studio, where “Gowanus 01” was painted.
