Christian Gonçalves received his BFA from Rhode Island College. He concentrated in sculpture while minoring in philosophy. His works are static in their presence yet fluid in their form: shapes evocative of atmosphere and presence that are part of an ambiguous thread. Exhibitions include AS220 Project space, Bannister Gallery/Focus Gallery, and ArtProv Gallery in Providence. His work is included in the collection of Bannister Gallery. He lives Providence.
“The Elder” is an homage to those that have gone before done in a style that is made to evoke the metaphysical, and symbolic essence of being. The form is an abstraction that is evocative of a presence that is part of an ambiguous thread. By choosing formal solutions, Gonçalves hopes to create an intense personal moment that is based in subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations.
