Mehr Jabin Iftikhar is a Pakistani origin artist from Lagos, Nigeria, currently residing in RI. She spends most of her time in Lagos and has spent some time in Kano which has given her exposure to the varied art in Northern & Southern Nigeria. She holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan. She has won numerous awards including “Best Figurative Painting” in a juried exhibition organized in the Newport Congregational Church in 2001. Her work was exhibited in Grandeur Gallery, Karachi Pakistan in 2013. She also participated 2016 exhibitions at the Warwick Center of Arts and the AAM.

In "Waiting" you see four women. Perhaps they are all waiting for something or someone. The expressions in their eyes are accompanied by a feeling of happiness & anticipation. The soft colors enhancing the dreamlike effect. It seems like someone is about to arrive whom they are all waiting for. Mehr Jabeen mostly paints African women with baskets of fruit. This is because there is a common sight of women street vendors in west Africa. This painting is rendered in a mosaic style created by brush strokes – the artist’s signature style. Living in Africa in a multiracial society seems to have made an impact in this artist’s work. You see a blending of Asian & African art in the facial features & figures of the women.
