Elizabeth Lind, an award-winning artist, grew up in NYC, absorbing its rich fine arts culture. Eventually relocating to RI, she earned her master’s degree from RISD while also managing an art gallery. She has maintained a busy carving studio for over 20 years, where she creates life-size figures of women and their environments – either real or imagined. She travels to Italy, researching sites rich in ancient female artifacts, mythology, and history. She is a frequent exhibitor at the AAM and was recently one of the featured artists in the 8 Visions exhibition.
“The Owl and the Pussycat II” is part of an ongoing series by Lind illustrating the whimsical poem by Edward Lear:
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea,
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
This small terracotta sculpture depicts the two lovers, traveling on an energetic sea in a gilded Viking boat. This piece is the artist’s proof, and is one of a kind. A subsequent edition of 20 will be produced this year.
