Helen Callanan is a student artist at the League School of Greater Boston in Walpole, MA which specializes in Autism and Aspergers education. She recently exhibited her work at the AAM with other peers in their first public show titled “Facing the Spectrum” and has volunteered at the museum for 2 years. Helen can find inspiration for art anywhere and everywhere and loves to create both in and out of school.
The acrylic 2-piece series “Passion & Rhythm,” created in 2017, portrays how the artist sees her sister, “her personality is very good for inspiration, dark but lively,” states Helen. In the first piece Helen Callanan used roses for imagery because they are beautiful but have thorns just like every girl has their flaws and beauty hurts. The artist’s second piece is inspired by Tim Burton and her sister’s love of his movies as well as her passion for music, specifically singing.
