John Davis is a multi-disciplined artist out of Boston. Davis graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA and a 2D Fine Arts Department Award for Excellence. His paintings, which have won him numerous other awards including the George Nick Award in 2015, belong in private collections from Boston to California to Beijing.
“Mama Smucker’s” is an exploration into a singular everyday object. By studying the object and determining which features are its most important, both in terms of its aesthetics and in its identity, as (in this case) a jar of jelly, Davis paints just enough information to create a tactile yet identifiable image. He enjoys being able to re-present these almost iconographical items in a refreshing way.
