Don Swavely has been honing his sense of the world and how he portrays it through photography and mixed media since childhood. It takes sensitivity and strength to be an artist. His work is usually bold, colorful and humorous. This piece has been an exceptional opportunity to explore a more sobering part of life and to celebrate the often-overlooked sacrifices that have been made to build our country.
War, especially among brothers, is a terrible nightmare. Those who give their lives for their cause are celebrated and remembered in many ways. Those who were “only” wounded are often ignored and poorly treated. This piece focuses on the men and women who saved many lives and cared for the wounded in our Civil War. They and their patients also deserve our heartfelt thanks and remembrance.
