Gwyn Marathas, a graduate of UMass Textile/Fiber program, is an award-winning artist from Easton, MA. Her work ranges from simple woven pieces to elaborate, hand embellished jacquard panels to sculpture and photography. Known as a visionary, her work is inspired by nature, elements of fantasy and modern themes, having a material focus on color, texture, and an innate understanding of sacredness in daily life.
“Column Tapestry” “I weave these simple tapestry columns with narrow spaces in mind – as beside a door or between windows – to soften that visual space and create textural interest in a room. Each tapestry is unique and as I weave, I follow the colors and yarns where they lead me. I feel that they enable a meditative feeling, in the viewing of them as well as in the creation of them,” remarks Marathas.
