Patty Stone grew up in Albuquerque, NM and has lived in the Boston area since 1981. She earned her BFA from the University of New Mexico and her MFA in painting from the Yale School of Art. She was a member of the Bowery Gallery in NYC for many years and exhibited widely throughout New England. Her work was selected for the first New England regional competition of New American Paintings. It is included in the permanent collection of Wheaton College, the Boston Public Library and many private collections. She is an Associate Professor of Art at Wheaton College where she teaches drawing and painting.
Stone’s long-standing interest in surface texture, maps, aerial views and abstraction developed over a year in Spain studying Moorish and Gothic architecture. Her recent paintings and prints address the movements of water, salt and sand. They allude to questions of drought, flood and evaporation in the Rio Grande and rivers of the American Southwest.
