Item Description
Original signed watercolor by Leon Azoulay. 21x27.
Leon Azoulay was born in Marocco in 1945. After immigrating to Israel, He settled in Safed and studied graphics and fine Art. Azoulay became interested in Bible art early in his career. Living in the ancient town of Safed, birthplace of jewish mysticism (the Kabbalah), inspired him in his search for a means of expressing his passion for painting and for the Bible. His art is unique fusion of the two. Azoulay's paintings depict scenes from the Tanach blended with Bibilical passages written in minute letters (Micro-Calligraphy). His rendition of the story of Creation, for example, is composed of the entire book of Genesis in micro-calligraphy, in a way that actually constructs the painting of the scene. Leon Azoulay has exhibited His work extensively. He has a permanent exhibition of His art at His gallery in the old city of Safed.
