Item Description
A week in Arcachon, France
Enjoy a week at a newly-remodeled two-bedroom, 2 ½ bath condo belonging to Ann Sanford, Bailli of Toledo, Ohio. Arcachon is a destination resort on the Bay of Arcachon, which empties into the Atlantic 45 minutes west of Bordeaux. The Bay is Europe’s oyster capital as well as a commercial and sport fishing center.
The condo is filled with charming antiques, oriental rugs, and every gourmet convenience for the home cook. Kitchen has new stainless Whirlpool appliances, an apron farm sink, an induction cooktop and a Nespresso coffee machine.
The condo has one bedroom with a queen bed and one with twins. Both have their own baths, and two sofa beds in the living area can sleep two more family members. Large by French standards at 900 square feet, the condo is the entire top floor of a 4-story building on a quiet street. It is two blocks from the shopping and beach district. The local market is fabulous and fresh every day.
There are large balconies on both sides, good for reading, talking and drinking lots of wine. The local groceries have terrific selections at low prices, and nice high-end wine departments if you want to splurge.
There is a thalassotherapy spa in town, a golf course, a large tennis club (10 clay courts and 10 hard surface), and opportunities for all kinds of water sports. Lots to do for kids big and small, too, from the many beaches to a water park, plus petting zoo, high-speed go-karting track, and high ropes courses nearby.
The living area has an antique baker’s rack as TV stand, with maps, guidebooks, DVDs, and paperbacks for the guests’ convenience.
Cable TV includes US news and many movie channels in English.
There are many things to do in the area: wine touring all around Bordeaux including the gorgeous medieval town of St. Emilion; climbing the tallest sand dune in Europe, the Dune of Pyla; dining at many excellent local restaurants; visiting San Sebastian, Spain or Biarritz; taking ferries and excursions around the bay; visiting two furnished historic chateaux in the area; touring the Winter Town in Arcachon and its Belle Epoque mansions; and relaxing on the sunny balconies at the condo with some local wine, cheese, and foie gras.
Ann will help you plan your trip, and has pages of recommendations for your outings and shopping.
Availability is year-round EXCEPT FOR JULY and AUGUST. Weeks are normally from Saturday to Saturday in the busier spring and fall seasons. Winning bidder will be provided with Ann Sanford's contact information to make arrangments.
